Questions and answers.
Honest answers, and only things we can actually stand behind. If your question is not here, the contact page and the Discord are the places to ask.
Is ChoiceStory free?
Yes. It is free, and always will be, for personal and non-commercial work, with no scene limits and nothing required online. You only pay if you go on to sell your story, and even then it is a one-time step, never a subscription.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. It is built to be no-code. You build the whole story with the mouse, by placing scenes and drawing the choices between them.
When can I try it?
It is pre-alpha right now. The free alpha opens to everyone later. Get on the early access list for the first testing wave, and follow the devlog to watch it come together.
What platforms does it run on?
Windows today. Exporting to the web, to phones, and to macOS and Linux are directions on our roadmap, written as intentions rather than promises. The studio itself will keep running on Windows.
Can I sell what I make?
The free tier is for personal and non-commercial work, and you can share what you make anywhere at no cost. To sell your story, a one-time Pro arrives with the beta. There are no subscriptions.
Is my work online, or on my computer?
On your computer. ChoiceStory runs offline, with no accounts and no cloud required. Your story stays yours.
What can a story contain?
Branching scenes built from video, images and sound, with the choices that move between them, exported to a single standalone file your audience can open and play.
Will it keep getting updates?
Yes. We are building in public and we keep shipping. The devlog is the place to follow what is changing.
How can I help shape it?
Join the Discord, get on early access, and tell us what is missing. One person’s missing piece is often a thousand people’s, so your feedback genuinely steers the build.
